Sumesh Sood, MS, MPH

Mr. Sood brings a unique, differentiated perspective with broad experience cultivated over nearly 25 years in healthcare. His career includes time in the academic laboratory, operating roles in industry, and various roles on Wall Street, including years as a portfolio manager of a long/short healthcare fund. Mr. Sood’s background gives him a holistic perspective on the industry, translating into a better understanding of the various opportunities in the space.
Mr. Sood spent over six years in operation roles at Medco Health (now Express Scripts) and Sanofi-Aventis. His experience at Medco gave him a birds-eye view of the PBM industry and its inner workings. While at Sanofi, Mr. Sood was in charge of forecasting, business planning and development for the cardiovascular franchise, which at the time included Plavix, the second-biggest selling drug in the world.
In 2005, upon leaving the industry, Mr. Sood started his financial services career at Friedman, Billings & Ramsey, where he covered biotechnology. He later moved to the buy-side, joining a large mutual fund where he was in charge of $1B in large-cap and midcap healthcare investments. Following this role, he was a portfolio manager of a long/short healthcare fund where he outperformed the target indices. Mr. Sood also worked as the co-head of healthcare at a regulatory focused broker dealer where he gained a significant understanding of the regulatory environment.
Mr. Sood earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Rochester, an MS in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology from Johns Hopkins University, and an MPH in Pharmacology from Columbia University. He spent four years in the laboratory at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, focusing on inherited disorders such as Marfan Syndrome and rare bone cancers. His work has been published in various peer reviewed journals such as Nature Genetics and The American Journal of Human Genetics.
